If you’re into a bit of cinema, Odeon are running a great offer over the next six weeks.

From 3rd September to 14th October 2010 inclusive they’re offering 40% off (valid any day, any time). As far as I can see, it’s perfectly valid at the Surrey Quays Odeon cinema, so make the most of it!

Congratulations to the Lions who won promotion to the Championship this afternoon with a 1-0 victory in the League One playoff final over Swindon. I was lucky enough to be there at Wembley for the game and, though I might be a tiny bit biased, I thought it was a well-deserved win.

It’s the 5th of November, and that means one important thing — fireworks in Southwark Park!

The event starts at 6pm with fireworks from 7pm.

There are various arty goings-on at the moment in Deptford with the annual Deptford X festival.

I was over there at the weekend and had a hard time finding the venues (top tip: check where they are on the map before leaving home). In fact, I found it so difficult to find them that I had to stop off for an emergency pub lunch before continuing. Several large roast potatoes, two good hours and a game of Trivial Pursuit later (a pub with board games, no less!), the treasure hunt continued. At last, when all hope seemed lost, we came across some suitably quirky installations next to the railway carriage cafe thingumajig that is The Deptford Project.

I won’t spoil the surprise by telling you what we saw. If you want to support a bit of much-needed local creativity, go there. Eat some cake in the cafe. And have a nose at the art.

The festival is on until next weekend, I believe, so don’t wait too long!

It was beautiful weather in Surrey Quays this weekend. Here’s a quick snap I stopped to take by Greenland Dock.

Having recently moved closer to Canada Water, I’ve been exploring my new patch with fresh eyes lately. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with what I’ve found.

If you live in the area and haven’t done so yet, take a few hours some time to pay a visit to the park area bordered by Salter Road. There’s a very pleasant walk through corridors of greenery, the rather unexpected Stave Hill and even an ‘eco park’. I for one had no idea it was there before! Makes me wonder what other hidden gems are around…

I’ve found a house! Yay! The new housemates seem very nice. And it’s nearer Canada Water tube station than my current place which means I’ll be onto the Jubilee line and/or the rail replacement buses in double quick time in future. Result!
